Deployable Data Services for Integration of Tactical Departure Scheduling and Traffic Flow Management

Description
Currently the ATD-2 research prototype environment flight route and trajectory prediction and analysis capabilities do not consider the effects of wind data on the route and estimated time of flight of the trajectories. As participating flight operators have considered recommendations from the ATD-2 systems in comparison to the information obtained from their own flight planning systems, they have noted discrepancies that cause confusion and distrust of the ATD-2 recommendations. Through the application of the results of the SBIR Phase II effort "Integration of Tactical Departure Scheduling (TDS) and Traffic Flow Management (TFM)," and the TDS/TFM-DS data services, the ATD-2 systems can improve consideration of the wind impacts on routes and trajectories, to align the information provided by ATD-2 with the information flight operators receive from their flight planning systems.
Benefits
This proposed effort addresses accurate prediction of flight trajectories for ATD-2 recommended Trajectory Option Set (TOS) routes, with a focus on the impact of wind on the trajectory. In addition, this work will help to establish, develop, and demonstration the value of Data Services for Aviation. These capabilities directly support the NASA ATD-2 project activities and needs.
In accordance with NASA's vision for a Services-Based National Airspace System (NAS), the information and value-added data to be provided to and used by flight operators may be provided by third-party organizations other than the Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP), or FAA in the case of the United States. Thus, the services developed under this effort create a direct commercial opportunity.
