This key objective of this IRAD is to develop a complete simulatable and executable flight instrument System Model of the EJSM Thermal Radiometer Instrument. This modeling activity will include each of the instrument’s subsystems.The innovation will come from the fact that this has never been done for a flight instrument at GSFC. The success of this IRAD will hopefully encourage this approach for future flight instrument development.
The objectives will be met as follows: Review the EJSM Thermal Instrument specifications with EJSM PI. Obtain thermal control models from the discipline thermal engineer. Create and simulate VHDL-AMS models of each subsystem in the instrument. Combine all subsystems models as a whole as well as simulate the complete flight instruments as well as its subsystems.
The anticipated benefit is that various subsystems architectures and topologies can be explored prior to any hardware implementation. In addtiton, having modelled the entire flight instrument prior to implementation will advance the verification plan since the system models simulation is the same verification used on the hardware.
