The CFT Project matures cryogenic fluid technologies critical to efficient in-space transportation, surface landers, and human presence on the moon and Mars, providing for extended use of cryogenic fluids in space, beyond durations which are currently on the order of hours. Cryogenic surface coatings will reduce the solar energy absorbed by the large tank areas by a factor of 10. Cryocoolers developed will increase the heat removal capability by a factor of 10 over currently used at both 90 K (liquid oxygen and liquid methane) and 20 K (liquid hydrogen). Reduced gravity transfer of cryogenic systems will be demonstrated to enable the refueling of cryogenic propulsion systems. Technologies applicable to both government and commercial space activities will be developed and demonstrated.
