The Cryogenic Fluid Management Portfolio Project, managed under the Technology Demonstration Missions (TDM) Program Office, is focused on the maturation of Cryogenic Fluid Management (CFM) technologies essential to NASA’s future missions in science and exploration which utilize both chemical and nuclear in-space propulsion, landers, and in situ resource utilization.
Cryogenic propellants will be used to fuel the propulsion systems for NASA’s future exploration initiatives beyond low-Earth orbit. Their effective management in space is critical to mission success. The CFM Portfolio Project addresses challenges in cryogenic fluid management to include passive and active storage to minimize boil-off losses, liquefaction, gauge and transfer cryogens in a low gravity environment, development of low-emissivity coatings, and furthering analytical capabilities for reliable prediction of cryogenic propellant system performance.
