Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Operational Fleet Noise Assessment (AAVP26)

In order to address the need for a documented methodology for generating noise assessments of fleet operations of UAM eVTOL aircraft concepts, NASA will deliver validated tools and tool chain documentation at TRL=5, document best practices for fleet noise modeling, and demonstrate fleet noise assessments of representative UAM operations.

The community will have both new and improved tools and better understanding of the cumulative effect of UAM
operations:

• Operations and routes can be assessed for noise impact
• Regulatory agencies, municipalities, airport/vertiport operators, UAM manufacturers and operators are all likely to use either the tools or the results of the tools
• Results can provide initial UAM vehicle flight recommendations similar to “Fly Neighborly” guidelines
• Sound demonstrations of UAM vehicles could be generated to support early public engagement

This is early/mid-stage (TRL 3) — the most realistic path in is NASA SBIR/STTR, which funds small businesses and research institutions to develop technology aligned with NASA's needs (equity-free, phased funding).
