Enabling Time-Domain/Multi-Messenger Mission Readiness (ETDAMMR)

Description

A consolidated catalog of TDAMM models is urgently needed to address the Decadal Survey’s prioritization for explorer/probe-class missions to perform time-domain/multi-messenger (TDAMM) astrophysics. The goal of our proposed IRAD project is to fulfill this need by 1) performing a study on theoretical/simulation model curation to provide GSFC scientists and the community with a customer-oriented tool to efficiently characterize and assess sources, and 2) advancing theory simulation technology to maintain a competitive edge in modeling TDAMM sources. The new model catalog and simulation technologies would build upon tools already in development in MOSSAIC[1] at GSFC, would be relevant to numerous current missions (e.g., Fermi, Gehrels-Swift, NICER, Chandra, Hubble), future missions (BurstCube, ULTRASAT, Roman), and mission concepts (AXIS, Strobe-X, AMEGO-X, COSI), and lead to potential follow-on funding from NASA programs TCAN, ATP, ADAP, ISFM, and follow-on IRAD.
