The goal of this project is to leverage existing Concept Exploration Laboratory (CEL) technologies, methodologies, and facilities in an effort to collect, warehouse, and augment all data relevant to human lunar exploration. The project focus will be to capitalize on 16+ years of data modeling, visualization, and analytics work applied to NASA, DoD, the City of Houston, the State of Texas, and private industry.
The NASA Human Spaceflight data and informatics isolation problem exists due to technology and cultural barriers that have not been addressed historically. Data analysis, or more specifically the lack of it, causes cost overruns, technical missteps, and program terminations. This is a technological gap at JSC. The solution is data fusion and subsequent data analysis. The CEL staff, equipment, and philosophy has a successful DoD based methodology to solve large scale data isolation and informatics problems. This data integration and utilization will take on more complexity as the Gateway Program is integrated with the 2024 / 2028 Lunar program which spreads NASA assets over immense areas and with TBD connectivity defined. CEL is a proven environment, having been utilized on the Shuttle program for the Columbia disaster recovery and Shuttle Return to Flight. The mitigation of operational risk involved in human lunar exploration can utilize similar processes, tools, and capabilities. This project will address the gap by demonstrating how to: A. Import disparate source data sets to include very large (big data genre) sets and multiples into a single interactive and easily accessible visualization environment. B. Fuse such data without content interpolation or other core modification. C. Generate visualizations that are data-interactive for test and evaluation. D. Generate final product data-driven visualizations for program knowledge base, public transport, and knowledge archive.

This is a mature technology (TRL 7+) — the realistic path in is usually NASA's Technology Transfer Program: licensing an existing NASA patent, or a Space Act Agreement to use NASA facilities/expertise directly. NASA also runs a startup licensing program with no upfront fee for companies formed to commercialize a specific NASA technology.
