Completed TRL 5 (started at 4, targeting 5)
Year 2 of this project will demonstrate closed loop SOFC operation, including: oxygen recirculation to increase the efficiency and reactant utilization of the system, a steam methane reformer to incrase the hydrogen content of the fuel stream, and a study into hot CO2 removal, which will improve the life of the fuel cell.
An integrated, closed loop propulsion and power system can be used in large-scale ISRU long-term testing. Further, a scaled and packaged power/propulsion system could be flown on a sounding rocket to complete the first in-space test of LOX/CH4 propulsion and the first in-space test of an integrated power and propulsion system utilizing common commodities.

This is early/mid-stage (TRL 5) — the most realistic path in is NASA SBIR/STTR, which funds small businesses and research institutions to develop technology aligned with NASA's needs (equity-free, phased funding). Check whether a current SBIR/STTR solicitation topic overlaps with this project's technology area, or contact the project directly (above) to ask.
None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
