Description

The Information Fusion & Data Analytics (IFDA) project directly addresses ADP Phase 1 Focus Areas 2,11, and 16 in FY21. IFDA continues to leverage JSC Code ER innovative capabilities to store and provide S&MA access to NASA multi-disciplined data relevant to human lunar exploration. The FY20 prototypical hardware and software system now functions as a DEMVAL unit for Code NA. The FY21 product will be a DoD 5000 “DEMVAL-ed” platform, with techniques extensible to upcoming lunar and Martian human exploration endeavors. The IFDA team has generated a small and portable concept exploration archive and mobile JSC cloud server system. Seven distinctly independent data sets were loaded. Interface tools for fusing each of the data sets were created, while the generation of tool sets for visualization analysis was initiated. With large data sets local on the same hardware as the data query engines, system experts can rapidly query across data sets without the delay of large file transfers or the limitations of data interfaces of the individual repositories.

Benefits

The NASA Human Spaceflight data and informatics isolation problem exists due to technology and cultural barriers that have not been addressed historically. The lack of adequate data analysis causes cost overruns, technical missteps, and program terminations. This is a technological gap at JSC. The solution is data fusion and subsequent data analysis. The Information Fusion & Data Analytics for Human Lunar Exploration project addresses this gap by demonstrating how to: A.Import disparate source data sets to include very large (big data genre) sets and multiples into a single interactive and easily accessible visualization environment. B. Fuse such data without content interpolation or other core modification. C. Generate visualizations that are data-interactive for test and evaluation. D. Generate final product data-driven visualizations for program knowledge base, public transport, and knowledge archive.
