Small Satellite MagLev 3DOF Test Platform

Description
Utilizing existing capabilities at WSTF this project will evaluate and optimize the performance of the magnetic levitation 3DOF test platform. Testing will include the utilization of a integrated Nano-thruster propulsion system provide by the university of El Paso Texas (UTEP). The objective is to prove the concept of using a small magnetic levitation-based 3 degrees of freedom (DOF) table to simulate a planar space environment. This will allow researchers to study and optimize propulsion systems and control algorithms for small-scale satellites prior to deployment.
Benefits
There is currently no known capability to conduct integrated small satellite testing in a zero-G (planar) vacuum environment across the agency, industry, or academia. It is speculated that this gap maybe be a contributing factor to elevated levels in CubeSat failures.
