Space-Based Wireless Network Protocol Stack Supporting MAC-Level Dynamic Resource Allocation for Real-Time Prioritized Data Classes

Description

Advancements in communication technologies have brought faster data rates and extensive network coverage. Critical space exploration applications require highly reliable network connections with predictable and low latency, while other links require high data rates with less dependency on latency. These extremes of time-critical and high bandwidth links are combined into a single communication network with support for varying latency requirements for different data stream classes that is highly adaptive to provide appropriate Quality of Service (QoS). The project aims to build a protocol stack that is capable of addressing deterministic traffic for spaceflight operations while simultaneously managing multiple levels of data traffic. The proposed approach aims to a) generate and label different classes of traffic b) enable the management of traffic classes via resource allocation and c) improve the physical layer to guarantee the proposed QoS.
