Description

The phase-occultation visible nulling coronagraph (PO-VNC) a type of hybrid interferometer that could be coupled to a single telescope to suppress starlight and increase the contrast of an exoplanet.

Benefits

It enables exoplanet science with arbitrary-shaped apertures (on/off-axis obscured and segmented), operates broadband, and senses and controls wavefront and amplitude errors at high bandwidth limited by the total stellar photon count rate. Furthermore, it is less sensitive to telescope instability than any other known method. It is the only approach that can make these claims and yet adapt to any telescope.
