Description
The NASA Biobrick technology uses aqueous biopolymers to solidify planetary, lunar or asteroid regolith (soil) to create rigid building materials that could be used to construct habitats, radiation shields or other structures in space. The material is a regolith biocomposite and its individual building units are biobricks though in fact they can comprise beams or thin panels. The technology has very interesting implications for construction of habitats and other structures on the Moon and beyond. The benefits of being able to use in situ resources for essential structures are enormous.
