Description
Recent improvements in multiplexing systems and tunable laser semiconductor diodes make the use of Wavelength Division Multiplexing to combine multiple frequency bands possible.
Benefits
The success of this work will result in a single transmitter terminal unit that can serve multiple RF frequency bands rather than using separate terminals for each frequency. Tangible benefits to NASA include significant reductions in the NASA communication satellite payload power and weight requirements with corresponding significant reductions in costs.
