Description

The unique properties of the III-nitrides (gallium nitride and related materials) have spurred a great deal of research and device development. The revolution in solid-state lighting is due in large part to the demonstration of short-wavelength LEDs fabricated from nitrides. III-N materials also have important applications in other areas such as power electronics, detectors, and lasers. It is important to note that on the materials side, despite the tremendous technological successes, challenges still remain.
