MeDiCNE - Metabolomics-based Disease Characterization via Needle Trap Extraction

Completed TRL 2 (started at 1, targeting 2)

Description

Construct an inexpensive NTD customized for extraction of selected disease biomarkers from urine biofluid analog. Conduct trade study of sorbent materials, needle designs, and extraction methodologies. Achieve comparable or greater extraction efficiency of biomarkers to SPME with custom NTD. Generate and analyze data of NTD extraction of target disease biomarkers and validate data against COTS SPME and NTD technologies.

Benefits

Develop a versatile Needle Trap Device (NTD) to extract defined metabolome disease biomarkers from biofluids.

How to get involved

This is early/mid-stage (TRL 2) — the most realistic path in is NASA SBIR/STTR, which funds small businesses and research institutions to develop technology aligned with NASA's needs (equity-free, phased funding). Check whether a current SBIR/STTR solicitation topic overlaps with this project's technology area, or contact the project directly (above) to ask.

None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
