Evaluate and improve the Prandtl propeller and fan blade technology/design process, to include the design process and develop new designs. The state-of-the-art is very dependent on application; fan, propeller, rotor, wind turbine, engine compressor blade, etc. The focus for this effort will be with fans and propellers until the project progresses. The work is focused on the technology design process and understanding the benefits and application to propellers and fans to be distributed to academic and industry partners and/or patent license holders. The expected impact will be improved efficiency and reduced acoustic signature of propellers and fans.
The Prandtl based propeller/fan is a new design technology/process that is expected to produce thrust with significantly less torque (improved efficiency) and reduce acoustics (noise levels) over a range of conditions. This project will be structured to explore several propeller and fan designs and identify key components of these designs.
