The goal of this proposal is to design and prototype a Compact Pressure Regulating Subsystem (CPRS) for a CubeSat Bimodal Propulsion System. A pressure regulating subsystem is required if a high-pressure chemical thruster and very low-pressure electro-spray thrusters are to co-exist within the same system. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) prototyped such a device for a SBIR effort, but the envisioned system is too large for practical use in a CubeSat. There are five work elements identified. A plan of action is identified for each. Valves – replacement with suitable, miniaturized in-line valves. Manifold – consolidate tubing and fittings into simplified, reduced part-count manifold(s). Assembly – alternative sealing methods (e.g. brazed or welded tube-manifold joint). Mounting – Planar interface design for enhanced fluid system integration. Control – integrated controller card to enhance electrical system integration.
