Description

To enable an instrument that measures only a point to measure an array of points without adding large moving parts.

Benefits

"Point spectrometer" refers to the instrument having a single sensing pixel and observing a single "point," which allows cooling, power and data requirements to be greatly reduced from “array” instruments. This work will reverse the normal use of a Digital μMirror Device (DMD) from directing a point source of light outwards to create a scene, to instead reflect a scene back into a single point: a spectrometer aperture. The point spectrometer can then effectively scan a scene, build a spectral image, or focus on individual points of interest by adding only a small, low power device.
