Integrated Sonde & Analyzer for In Situ Aerosol Measurements at Venus

Description

Demonstrate survivability (critical functionality) of the optical substrate under anticipated Venus cloud layer physical and chemical conditions, and characterize the SERS integration time (expected limit to high sample analysis cadence) required for high-priority spectral signatures.

Benefits

This work will advance the TRL of a novel small aeroshell/sonde concept that fills the technology gap for elemental and molecular characterization of aerosol mixtures at high cadence. This innovation is designed to eliminate the need for controlled descent to achieve a detailed atmospheric aerosol transect, offering the possibility of in situ planetary science in a small spacecraft envelope.
