Luminescence Cryothermometry, Year 2

Description

A luminescence cryothermometry approach to temperature mapping at cryogenic temperatures will be developed utilizing an innovative luminecence-based temperature-sensing coating to provide noncontact full field luminescence-based temperature mapping from 20 K to room temperature. This temperature mapping approach will be demonstated to be capable of identifying heat leaks in cryogenic fluid storage vessels.

Benefits

A new temperature mapping tool will identify heat leaks in cryogenic fluid storage vessels located in an extremely cold lunar or martian environments to avoid surface mission-threatening cryogenic volatile resource loss.
