Lithion-ion Lunar Hibernation Survival

Description

The objective of this work is to understand the battery management protocols of hibernation of Li-ion cells and battery packs at differing SOCs during exposure to lunar day/night cycles. The objective will be achieved upon completion of survival testing for 1) single cells at high SOC, 2) independent series and parallel strings, and 3) battery packs with series and parallel string combinations.

Benefits

Successful demonstration of battery hibernation and revival is a cornerstone in enabling low-cost missions to extend their durations beyond a single lunar daylight period without needing to develop new battery technologies.
