Shock Mitigation Via Wire Bristles

Description

This CIF proposes a novel, low mass solution for absorbing shock energy. The concept is to place many small interacting wire bristles in the direct path of the propagating wave. This bristles interacting will act as an energy absorption, lowering the shock environment experienced by the component.

Benefits

This concept would be categorized as Revolutionary. Shock testing is a common practice. Current approaches for mitigating shock include modifying where components are placed as well as adding joints between the shock source and the component. These methods impose additional system constraints. If successful this proposal would provide a mitigation method that would have lower impact on the overall system design.
