The objective is to experimentally evaluate feasibility of braided fiber couplings for high speed turbomachinery. Speed & torque limits, life factors, and induced vibrations will be analyzed for different braids configurations.
This proposal will enable future component development in direct-drive rotating electric machinery by simplifying modularity with a novel braided fiber coupling. A braided fiber coupling could be a potential low-cost, scalable, and stable solution to mating isolated high-speed electric machines to engine turbomachinery.
