Plasma Rapid Oxidation Technique for Extending Component Tenability (PROTECT)

Description

Increasing the longevity of AM parts will make spacecraft and launch vehicles more reliable and safer. This technology will increase the life space of spacecraft parts by decreasing corrosion by 70%, decrease fatigue by 10% and decrease flammability by 30% compared to the as-printed part while increasing the reliability and longevity.

Benefits

Project success will improve safety and reliability of AM components by improving fatigue, corrosion and flammability characteristics. It will also allow for new design freedoms for complex AM components.
