Spaceflight Oculometric System for Mars Astronaut Robust Surveillance (SOS4MARS)

Description

Severe operational constraints preclude using standard neurological monitoring and diagnostics to maintain crew health and performance during a Mars mission. New capabilities are needed, especially with known increased risk to neural function of spaceflight beyond low-earth orbit. This project will validate flight-ready, wearable oculometric technology for crew health/performance surveillance on long-duration missions.

Benefits

This project builds upon the team's recent advances in oculometric technologies using their lab system in terrestrial applications to develop and validate a VR-based oculometric system that is capable of assessing neural function in operational microgravity environments. There are no generalized functional assessment tools capable of monitoring neural health and performance in space.
