Quantum technologies have the potential for substantial enhancements in information processing, sensing, and secure communications, among many possible applications. The objective is to demonstrate on-chip waveguide entangled photon sources with high-efficiency integrated superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs), as building blocks towards chip-scale quantum information processing devices for flight systems.
Typical arrangements of quantum information processing with entangled photons use bulky optical components confined to laboratory tables. Integrated photonic devices, in which light is propagated and processed through waveguides at microchip-scales are an ideal low-size,weight, and power solution to enable future NASA missions, secure quantum communications, and quantum sensor networks.
