Plasma-Based Elemental Analyzer for Crewed Transit and Planetary Habitation

Description

The aim of this 1-year CIF is to demonstrate the viability of a small, compact plasma spectrometer for in-situ elemental analysis. Success of the project will result in useable equipment to support further instrument development efforts.

Benefits

This project aligns with STMD Strategic framework "Live" because it allows for in-situ hydroponics monitoring or plant tissue monitoring so its a sustainable food source equipment and then it aligns with "Explore" for analysis and identification of environments, atmospheres, residue, etc. Ultimately this project will allow for more accurate nutrient composition for plant material grown on the ISS by avoiding decomposition and transport back to Earth.
