In this research program, we will develop a new capability for broad-band, efficient frequency-doubling. The concept uses targeted optical design and wavelength dispersion to achieve optimal phase-matching across a wide (~20-nm) spectral input.
ICESat-2 has recently demonstrated unprecedented bathymetry measurements from a spaceborne Lidar using green laser pulses. We have been developing a next generation lidar technology called CASALS that operates at 1-µm which will drastically improve instrument resolution and efficiency. This research program will demonstrate a novel frequency-doubling architecture that will enable us to convert CASALS into a green lidar that will optimize performance for bathymetry, ice and cloud science and extend the capabilities of the CASALS architecture.
