Description

We seek to develop an integrated, modular and near real time passive-active processing framework for upcoming DSI PBL, ESTO and NOAA BAA suborbital field campaign announcement opportunities. Our goal is to use measurements acquired, and processing architectures developed during the recently concluded IMPACTS[1] and SARP[2] field campaigns. The IMPACTS campaign offers a vast ensemble of collocated CoSMIR[3] and CPL[4] measurements that can serve as an excellent testbed to our current retrieval algorithm developments. An open-source framework that was recently utilized for SARP, using the Science Managed Cloud Environment (SMCE), could serve as an excellent reserouce for the NOAA BAA field campaign. The SMCE is a modular, reusable system for agile field campaign data integration and processing and we seek to leverage this resource to acquire, collocate and re-format large volumes of airborne, satellite and in situ observational data into a “ML ready”, “retrieval ready”, “data assimilation ready” dataset for near real time processing.

Benefits

Developing this end-to-end, efficient and near real time observational data fusion processing capability is essential to strategically position our team to compete for follow-on NASA DSI PBL (~FY25, ~FY27, ~FY32), NOAA BAA (~FY25) and EV suborbital field campaigns opportunities. This work will also serve as a risk mitigation to help secure a timely completion of our highly stringent 2024 NOAA BAA WHyMSIE[1] field campaign milestone plan and expedite our preparation for upcoming IIP TRL maturation tech demo funding opportunities (~Winter of 2024) by developing and refining algorithms for validation ahead of the campaigns. Being conceived as a modular, integrated and intelligent system, we seek to produce an agile tool suitable for future utilization by the broader GSFC science and engineer community and that can lay the path for upcoming AIST announcement opportunities.
