Description

A system utilizing both chemical and particle indicators will provide a more rapid time response than what is currently available and a reduction in false alarms by the confirmation of the presence of both chemical and particle indicators. The objective of the proposed work is to develop a rapid time response diagnostic using a suite of instruments for the detection of heated polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) insulated wires based on chemicals and particles generated at relatively low temperatures. The anticipated result of the proposed effort is the development of a conceptual design for an early warning system that can specifically detect the overheating of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) insulated wires. This design can be utilized as a subsystem integrated into a fully capable fire detection system.
