Description

Our goal is to develop a Wearable Microneedle Array for the Continuous, Electrochemical Monitoring of Biomarkers. Continuous monitoring of bone health biomarkers will allow a deeper understanding of bone loss progression and aid in identifying the efficacy of potential physiological, dietary and pharmaceutical interventions.

Benefits

The absence of load bearing forces experienced in microgravity causes a reduction of overall bone mass and results in the development of space osteopenia/osteoporosis. The Human Research Roadmap has identified a need to monitor biomarkers of skeletal health. There is currently no in vivo technology to monitor bone biomarkers during spaceflight.
