Funding set-aside for year of execution. This allows MSFC CCT to make advantageous 'micro-investment' throughout the year as opportunities (and ideas) present themselves. Generally, these are low dollar, short period of performance concept studies or proof of concept builds. Products are clear KPPs of technical merit and forward path if appropriate. These are also used to establish relationships with SMEs, Programs, small businesses, universities, etc.
The benefit is to continue a culture evolution, cultivating a culture of on-going innovation. CIF / OCT can quickly offer some minimal resources to investigate the potential and technical merit of ideas 'read time' throughout the year. Encouraging a faster paced, on-going culture of innovation.
Listed on TechPort itself — the most direct way to ask about this specific project.
This is a mature technology (TRL 7+) — the realistic path in is usually NASA's Technology Transfer Program: licensing an existing NASA patent, or a Space Act Agreement to use NASA facilities/expertise directly. NASA also runs a startup licensing program with no upfront fee for companies formed to commercialize a specific NASA technology.
None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
