The Lunar Navigation System (LNS) is the activity to formulate, implement, and execute the cislunar safety of navigation for full-service volume operational capability. Formulate, design, and deploy an interoperable system-of-systems within the LunaNet architecture with leverages the Near Space Network (NSN) elements providing PNT services in cislunar space to ensure safety of navigation.
PNT technologies benefit the network through loading reduction and broadened network capacity. Benefits to users are accurate real time knowledge and seamless transitions between environments. Reliable, accurate, autonomous, in-situ real-time position, velocity, and time estimation, and maneuver planning and execution for network orbital/space-based assets and for the user community in orbit or on the surface.
Improves lunar navigation performance. Lunar in-situ infrastructure to realize a cohesive set of accurate foundational reference systems and time; coordinated provisioning to and distribution of these through trusted interoperable network(s); and associated data reduction firmware/software. Improved configuration of Earth stations to mitigate network burden.
