This project aims to develop a research-driven framework for measuring and mitigating risk and establishing infusion standards for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) actors into aerospace systems by examining usage through the Intelligent Extensible Mission Architecture(IEMA) sample AI mission. We will investigate the current state of Verification and Validation (V&V) of AI within the aerospace domain and, using our findings, design a testing framework and apply it to the IEMA example. Through iterative research and development, we will establish standards and practices that facilitate the secure incorporation of AI into missions, building trust by ensuring reliability while also helping to advance the other IEMA objectives.
By establishing clear and reliable standards for AI integration, we aim to enhance the capability and performance of aerospace missions, ensuring they can leverage the full potential of AI actors while maintaining the highest levels of safety and reliability.
Additionally, this framework will address the ethical considerations and impacts on human operators, ensuring that the deployment of AI technologies adheres to ethical guidelines and promotes responsible use, thereby safeguarding human well-being and societal trust.
