This effort supports the production of reflective far-ultraviolet (FUV) band-selecting filters fo FUV multi-object spectrograph applications. We will utilize a novel reactive physical vapor deposition (rPVD) method, which has been previously proven to produce high-efficient reflective FUV broadband films, to fabricate these filters. This effort will target the development of a high-efficiency FUV bandpass filter operating at and extended spectral range of 160-200 nm.
Future Habworlds (HWO) payload concepts, such as the HWO HabWorlds Ultraviolet Multi-Object Spectrograph (HUMS), will need highly efficient FUV band-separating/Lyman-alpha suppressing FUV filters, and the filter produced in this proposed effort will serve as a prototype for one of the proposed bands. This effort is also a technology maturation for risk reduction as the methods proposed do not require high-temperature heating.
