Holodeck The Next Generation using Anaglyph Extended Reality Technologies

Holodeck The Next Generation using Ultimate Extended Reality Technologies will create new interactive training tools for supporting future NASA missions. This will enable a fully immersive space with touch through a new technology concept called SUIT (Strings Uniform with Increased Tactile) and the ultimate in visuals through Integrated Solutions for Systems AXR technology. This will be coupled with scent and wind effects.

The Holodeck will assist NASA engineers in visualizing new designs in a physical space where they can touch the hardware. It will allow astronauts to train in environments and scenarios before the facilities have been built. For example practicing evacuating a space craft prior the the physically elements have been built. This will also allow for human factors in various scenarios to be evaluated with equipment and evaluate if the astronauts for instance can fit in an area of the space craft by physically moving through it. The Holodeck could also be used for a vast variety of entertainment and training activities as depicted in various Star Trek series. From virtual mysteries, to being able to visualize complex designs, to complex training scenarios that would be difficult to simulate in reality.

This is early/mid-stage (TRL 3) — the most realistic path in is NASA SBIR/STTR, which funds small businesses and research institutions to develop technology aligned with NASA's needs (equity-free, phased funding).
