Description
The project aims to develop a next-generation Mars relay network using crosslink radios and Kalman Filters to enhance position; navigation; and timing (PNT) services on Mars. This innovation will improve orbit determination accuracy; reduce reliance on the Deep Space Network (DSN); and enable more efficient Martian missions.
Benefits
This project will enhance Mars mission capabilities by using advanced crosslink radios and Kalman Filters for precise position and navigation. It will reduce reliance on Earth-based tracking; alleviate oversubscription of the Deep Space Network (DSN); and enable the use of smaller; more efficient satellites in Martian navigation constellations.
