Description
iBeam (Ion Beam deflection) provides precisely-controlled asteroid deflection without the possibility of disruption making it potentially the best planetary defense technique for the most likely threat object size (50-140m dia.).
Benefits
Demonstration of low-ion beam divergence optics would be a major step forward to establishing iBeam as a planetary defense technique that mitigates potential issues with Kinetic Impactors.
