Developing a New Software Tool for Real-time Predictive Modeling of Aviation Contrails to Mitigate Climate Impact

Description
This proposal aims to transform the legacy Ames Contrail Simulation Model (ACSM) into a state-of-the-art automated software tool. The new tool will predict aviation contrail formation and evaluating their climate impact in real-time; a critical step for developing operational climate mitigation strategies. We will enhance the contrail modeling by incorporating the latest scientific discoveries and creating user-friendly interfaces that are accessible across multiple platforms. Additionally; we aim to achieve a 10x increase in computational efficiency by modernizing the codebase and designing a scalable architecture compared to the legacy models.
