Description
This proposal aims to build on recent work at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) that has demonstrated a new metal fluoride thin-film deposition process for improved ultraviolet optical coatings. We will build on existing demonstrations of simple anti-reflection coatings and protected aluminum mirrors to more broadly advance the state-of-the-art for all ultraviolet optical coatings relevant to astrophysics instrumentation. We will produce more complex, but at the same time, more stable optical coatings required for a broad range of UV astrophysics instruments.
