Description

The LUMEN project seeks to develop computational methods to assist with 3D mapping and scene understanding in the harsh lighting environment of space (Lunar, Martian, and beyond)

Benefits

Gap: Current 3D mapping methods struggle to create high-resolution maps in lunar shadowed regions, which are primary targets for current and upcoming missions

Technology: LUMEN uses cutting-edge computational imaging techniques, physics-based reflectance modeling, and data/sensor fusion to map PSRs and transiently shadowed terrain at meter-scale with existing (and future) orbital and on-the-ground data
