Develops AI-optimized acoustic mufflers for spacesuits, targeting noise from the Portable Life Support System (PLSS). Designs are tailored to PLSS constraints, simulated thru FEA&CFD, 3D-printed, and tested. The framework extends to HLS, Gateway, habitats and rovers, enhancing spaceflight acoustic performance. In addiiton, the framework/workflow could apply to other NASA areas.
Benefits
Astronauts in spacesuits are exposed to excessive noise from internal fans, pumps, and life support system. The noise levels exceed Acoustic Requirement, impairing communication, crew performance & health. Using AI algorithms, muffler parameters (e.g., diameter, length, chamber design) are tuned to reduce noise at critical frequencies while meeting PLSS constraints enhancing crew performance and mission safety.
