Description
This proposal seeks to provide an enterprise-wide, zero-configuration platform that enables collaborative 3D visualization of facilities, 3D models, and point clouds using tethered or standalone AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) headsets or desktop interfaces through Mission Cloud Platform (MCP). The proposal is a partnership between the GSFC AR/VR Research & Development Lab and Noblis to create an end-to-end, open-source platform that democratizes access to advanced 3D visualization and collaboration capabilities across NASA's engineering and design teams, specifically engineers and system designers for the Integrated Design Center (IDC) and the Hardware Integration & Test (I&T) Facility. The proposal leverages two NASA open-source tools, the GSFC-developed Mixed Reality Exploration Toolkit (MRET) and the Kennedy-developed Rapid Model Import Tool (RMIT) and incorporates Noblis' rapid scene reconstruction from video technology to provide a zero-configuration (i.e., no installation or setup), rapid turnaround, secure cloud-based visualization platform that mitigates risk and reduce costs at both system design and hardware I&T.
