(GCA-5 with Noblis): Earned Trust Framework for Ad Hoc Multi-Agent Autonomous Machine Team Orchestration
Active
Description
Our partnership between ASTRA* (GSFC) and Noblis will integrate capabilities from both entities to form the first integrated onboard AI system for spaceflight capable of completely autonomous multi-asset orchestration and analysis of environmental characteristics, hazards, risk management, and onboard decision-making in service of mission objectives. Our combined capability will be necessary for a sustained human presence on Mars or the Moon, and is targeted for several upcoming launch and proposal opportunities. At the conclusion of this project, we will achieve a TRL 6 operational and mission autonomy prototype, and deliver an integrated software suite, a report on validation and verification of software in simulation and field deployments, and documentation on deploying the capability.
Benefits
Creates integrated onboard AI system for autonomous multi-asset orchestration and environmental analysis; Enables completely autonomous decision-making for Moon-to-Mars robot-robot and robot-human teaming; Develops TRL 6 operational mission autonomy prototype with risk management capabilities

How to get involved
This is a mature technology (TRL 7+) — the realistic path in is usually NASA's Technology Transfer Program: licensing an existing NASA patent, or a Space Act Agreement to use NASA facilities/expertise directly. NASA also runs a startup licensing program with no upfront fee for companies formed to commercialize a specific NASA technology.
None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
