Mars Scoreboards for Space Weather Nowcasts and Forecasts

Description
To safeguard Mars crewed and robotic missions, the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC) will develop three public state-of-the-art space weather forecasting Scoreboard web applications for Mars, focusing on Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs), Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), and Solar Indices. The Mars Scoreboards work will provide critical space weather forecasts and characterize the environment to assess and mitigate astronaut radiation risks, communication disruptions, and satellite and infrastructure anomalies. We will achieve this by adapting our successful SEP and CME Earth-based Scoreboards currently supporting NASA's Artemis missions. The targeted outcome is an open-access, forecasting platform that advances Mars space weather capabilities, enables forecast accuracy improvements, identifies key modeling and observational gaps, and establishes a new foundational research-to-operations framework specifically for Mars, essential for the success of the Agency’s Moon-to-Mars initiative.
