Biomimetic Zero CTE Lightweight Optical Structures

This NASA SBIR Phase II proposal presents an unprecedented method to make zero CTE lightweight optical structures such as optics mounting structures, brackets, optical benches, and metering structures. With our successful history in a variety of AM processing for TPMS structures, this proposal has a great potential to succeed. A proof-of-concept demonstration has been carried out at the end of Phase 1. Detailed investigation on mechanical and thermal properties will be done, and prototypes of multi-functional optical structures will be delivered at the end of Phase II.

In addition to NASA’s space structure manufacturing, the proposed AM and SM process and structured designs can also be used in other applications, such as space vehicle, aircraft, and satellite manufacturing. The rising focus on efficient thermal management in various industries, including oil & gas, power generation, chemical & petrochemical, food & beverage, high power electronics, and HVAC & refrigeration, is expected to drive the demand for heat exchangers during the forecast period. - The global market for 3D Printing is projected by Grand View Research to reach $88 billion by the year 2030, driven by the advent of newer technologies, approaches, and applications. Expanding use of the technology in manufacturing final products, declining cost of printers, and increasing use of 3D printing technology in newer areas bodes well for market growth. The 3D printing market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 23.5%
