Quantum Technology Advice and Guidance (QTAG)

Active

Description

The purpose of this role is to serve as the strategic lead for integrating emerging quantum technologies into STMD’s Enable program, specifically supporting Advanced Avionics and Sensors and Materials, Structures, and Manufacturing. As NASA prioritizes Moon-to-Mars, technologies that provide unprecedented precision and autonomy are critical, of which quantum technologies may offer extraordinary quantum advantage. This role will centralize knowledge of quantum investments across the agency, assess their maturity, and guide STMD’s Enable program future investment strategy to bridge the gap between laboratory research and flight-ready demonstrations for deep space exploration. The Quantum Technology Advisor will execute the following primary tasks: • Cross-Center Quantum Inventory: Actively survey and collect data on current and planned quantum technology research and investments across all NASA centers. • Technology Mapping & Alignment: Analyze the collected data to determine how these quantum technologies map to STMD’s Enable program Avionics and Sensors initiatives. • Strategic Recommendations: Evaluate the cross-center portfolio and formulate strategic recommendations for future STMD Enable program investments. Recommendations must emphasize technologies that directly enable Moon-to-Mars objectives. The Quantum Technology Advisor will be expected to deliver the following to STMD’s Enable program leadership: • Quarterly Status Briefings: Brief updates detailing the progress of cross-center data collection and emerging trends. • NASA Quantum Landscape Matrix: A consolidated database/matrix cataloging all identified quantum projects across NASA centers, including their current TRL, primary applications, and lead center. • Draft Investment Strategy Report: A preliminary document outlining high-potential quantum technologies that warrant STMD investment, specifically highlighting their impact on Moon to Mars avionics and sensor goals. • Final Executive Briefing & Report: A comprehensive final presentation and written report summarizing the cross-center findings and detailing prioritized, actionable investment recommendations for the STMD Enable program.

How to get involved

This is a mature technology (TRL 7+) — the realistic path in is usually NASA's Technology Transfer Program: licensing an existing NASA patent, or a Space Act Agreement to use NASA facilities/expertise directly. NASA also runs a startup licensing program with no upfront fee for companies formed to commercialize a specific NASA technology.

None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
