Construction Implements for ISRU Construction (ConstructIICons)

Active

Description

Further KSC’s extraterrestrial compaction for ISRU construction capabilities that meet potential partner needs and expands applicability to multiple programs with a focus on Moon Base needs. Project focuses on advancing the MEERCAT (Multifunctional End Effector for Regolith Construction, Acquisition, and Transfer) compactor and construction demonstrator, and STOMP (Site Preparation Tooling for Operations on Mobility Platforms ) a large-scale roller compactor for foundations, roadways, and landing pad construction. Combined, these technologies present a pathways from early technology demonstrations of compaction up to full-scale construction and geotechnical quality control measurements.

Benefits

Further study and demonstration of MEERCAT geotechnical and compaction quality control capabilities, integrating the existing STOMP roller compactor on RASSOR 2 for robotic demonstration, and design of a TRL 5 STOMP (design only)

How to get involved

This is a mature technology (TRL 7+) — the realistic path in is usually NASA's Technology Transfer Program: licensing an existing NASA patent, or a Space Act Agreement to use NASA facilities/expertise directly. NASA also runs a startup licensing program with no upfront fee for companies formed to commercialize a specific NASA technology.

None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
