SENTRY-Mars: Solar, Environment, and iNterplanetary dynamics Tracking and Response sYstem at Mars.
Active
Description
The FY26 IRAD laid the groundwork in observation prioritization for SENTRY-Mars, this follow-on IRAD will mature the Mars-Sun L1 mission concept toward a closed, architecture-ready capability that can support future Moon-to-Mars infrastructure. Building on the FY26 Mars L1 space weather (SWx) IRAD and expanding to include Mars weather (MWx), SENTRY-Mars will define a digitally designed, uncertainty-aware observatory that couples direct solar (e.g., upstream solar wind, SEP/CME) and radiation monitoring with full-disk Martian atmospheric observations. The result will be a traceable mission architecture for actionable environmental intelligence that supports crew safety, EDL, communications, power, ISRU, EVA, and robotic operations at Mars.
Benefits
Mature Mars-Sun L1 mission concept toward closed, architecture-ready capability; digitally designed uncertainty-aware observatory coupling solar/radiation monitoring with full-disk Martian atmospheric observations; traceable mission architecture supporting crew safety, EDL, communications, power, ISRU, EVA, and robotic operations at Mars.

How to get involved
This is a mature technology (TRL 7+) — the realistic path in is usually NASA's Technology Transfer Program: licensing an existing NASA patent, or a Space Act Agreement to use NASA facilities/expertise directly. NASA also runs a startup licensing program with no upfront fee for companies formed to commercialize a specific NASA technology.
None of these are guaranteed paths for this specific project — TechPort itself doesn't have an "apply" button. Reaching out to the contact(s) above with a specific question is usually the fastest way to find out what's actually open.
